Monday = Chest and back. Tip of the day for round 1 is pace yourself.. cause you're gonna have to do it again. And I did.. For those of you not familiar P90X chest and back is an hour of push-ups and pull-ups. They change up the hand grips for some variety and targeting different muscles, but it's an hour of that mostly. You've seen my pics, clearly I'm not a push-up or pull-up kinda girl. If my life depended on my doing just one of either of those, my children would be motherless. But that's ok.. Because I "do my best and forget the rest" You'll see that a lot here.
When I started last May I did push-ups against the wall. Yes, it's a little pathetic, but it's a start. As I got stronger I could put my feet back a little more to give myself more resistance. Now I do them on the stairs. These stairs.
Once again, it doesn't seem like much, but I can feel myself getting stronger. For "Decline push-ups" I've gone to doing them on my knees. -- Well for the most part. I did 6 on my knees for round one. Then Little Miss decided she couldn't turn down the opportunity to ride mommy like a horsie. Dive Bombers? I got 3 really ugly ones in before temptation became too much for her!
With 20 min to go Lila injured her baby self.. twice. In 90 seconds. *sigh* I'm not going to get to finish. I give my girl some na-nas (her name for nursing) and she's happier. When I realize she's not going to sleep I decided I'm going to finish this workout if it kills me! I strap the baby to my back and finish up. How's that for upping the intensity? I just added, well, 20lbs of intensity! (She fell asleep after I was done)
Still breathing hard.. Sweaty and no make-up naked baby sleeping on my back.. Yep.. I'm keeping it real. Anyway.. day 11- Chest and back. Done! What did you do today? (Or what are you *planning* to do?)
Carolyn asked about the pull-ups.. I'm sticking with the resistance bands for now. One of my goals is to eventually graduate to a pull-up bar!
The main point of this is to show that everything can be modified. Everyone hears P90X and they say "Oh I can't do that" I said it too.. and really? I still can't, but it doesn't matter. I do what I can. I'm getting stronger, I'm losing weight. It really is a workout for ANYONE at any fitness level. I mean come on, stair push-ups? lol One day I'll do real ones ;-)
I just ordered P90X. You are a Rock Star.
ReplyDeleteYAY! I'm so excited you're gonna do it with me :D
DeleteYou rock SO HARD for finishing your work out with a toddler strapped onto your back! Kudos to you for not just giving up. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow do you do the pull-ups?
I haven't worked out yet today, but I plan on doing Day 10 of Ripped in 30 and a walk/hike with the dog.
Resistance bands are my friend :)
DeleteThanks for updating your post! It would have never occurred to me to use the resistance bands for pull ups. (I couldn't figure out how anyone could do them at home at all, modified or not!)
DeleteLOVE this post. It's giving everyone a realistic look at how to get it done. I did 10 minutes on stationery bike and plan on 10 minutes of yoga. it's not much but as long as i'm did more than yesterday i feel good and 20 minutes really is all I feel like I can take for myself. All thanks to you and your inspiration
ReplyDeleteYou rock! And yes.. just because you can't do it ALL doesn't mean you can't do it.. I mean hell if 330lb me can do it *anyone* can!
